Launch presentations

At the official launch of Issue One, each member of the editorial team spoke about their involvement with Smudge. This is what they said:

Libby: Making Smudge has been really exciting because not all of it has been easy. Deciding on the name was difficult (we nearly chose 'What's Up?') and we actually rolled a die to choose between that name and Smudge. Before I helped to make Smudge I wasn't interested in going to art galleries. Now I am. I hope other children feel the same after reading Smudge.

Leanne: What I've learned is that art is not just all painting and drawing. Some is done on the computer e.g. I liked 'Muck Muck' by Albert Oehlen. Some is plasticine work too, like our models for the Revenge of the TV story. Making Smudge wasn't easy, especially when people didn't get their own way. But I loved being part of the Smudge Team and I'm much more interested in art now.

Liam: I enjoyed looking at art in the local area. I've been inspired since making Smudge and I draw pictures every evening. I loved trying on different shoes at the Arnolfini (including women's ones!) I loved the way I was allowed mto doodle in my sketchbook whenever I wanted. I would love to be an artist when I'm older - perhaps painting landscapes, or an animator instead.

Wesley: I enjoyed writing 'The Revenge of the TV' story as a group. I loved doodling and I got through 3 sketchbooks. I am proud to have my name and picture in Smudge. Sometimes people found it hard when they didn't get the job they wanted or didn't work with who they wanted. But I am so pleased to have favourite sketches in Smudge. I have told my mum that I'm interested in being a teacher in the future so that I can share what I've learned from the magazine.

Imogen: My favourite thing was making plasticine models. I will look back at Smudge with a lot of pride.

Josie: I loved investigating the patterns on the chocolates (but really that was just an excuse for scoffing them!) Making the magazine went very fast and I wish I was still working on it.

Jenny: I enjoyed going on all the trips to the Arnolfini and other places. I don't really know what to say, but I wish Smudge had lasted longer.

Sam: I adored making plasticine models to go with the story. I invented Zig as a result. I wish I could do the magazine again, because it was so good.
